Guide to Meeting Your Coursemates Before University

Meeting your university coursemates - Student socialising | Freshers Guide - University Guide - Student Guide - Freshers Life

BECOME AN ONLINE SOCIAL MEDIA ASSISTANT

Here’s a list of things to do which will maximise your chances of finding coursemates, potential housemates and new university friends, all before you start next September.

1) Post your introduction

Make sure you join your university groups – post your introduction and include your course, your uni, your preferred accommodation or anything else you may think is relevant. As the UK’s largest university applicants platform, we have over 1000 new members joining the student community everyday, so it’s worth re-posting your intro post every week or so.

2) Invite all your current classmates

Once everybody does this, the process of finding your new coursemates and university friends will happen much sooner. Also, you’ll be giving your friends the opportunity to get that social head-start too. The bigger the group, the easier it will be for everyone. Join the group below and use the invite button to add your friends.

Top tip: share the University Applicant’s group across any local groups you’re a member of on Facebook.

3) Join your main WhatsApp & Snapchat groups

Joining your chats is a great way to interact with other uni applicants & have some fun getting to know each other before September. You can also use these chats to find your official uni specific groups & course group chats once they are released by Freshers Life.

4) Earn freebies & cash

Be on the lookout for challenges, competitions & online paid opportunities posted by Freshers Life or Student Jobs. This is the best way to get involved – and you can also earn yourself some freebies & cash by doing so. Student Jobs are currently recruiting College Ambassadors to complete a short task and earn £15 in 10 minutes via Paypal.

5) Turn on group notifications

Don’t miss-out on any important information posted in the group. Once the main university chats are released, you’ll need to act fast – WhatsApp & Snapchat only allow a certain number of members per chat. There’ll also be important applicant updates, events and plenty of other useful stuff. You can turn on the notifications by clicking the 3 dots in the top right, then ‘Manage notifications’ and select ‘All posts’.

6) Freshers Week Events

Freshers Week is all about meeting people and having the best time. You only get one, so make the most of it and secure any tickets for the biggest events early. It will save you money and FOMO!

“The thought of going to university can be terrifying, especially without someone to talk to who has already experienced it. The Freshers Life social media platforms provided me with insightful information throughout the whole process, from choosing the right course to top tips for freshers’ week.

The online community allows you to meet people going to the same uni as you, who are in exactly the same position, which definitely calmed the nerves. I would absolutely recommend exploring the Freshers Life platforms for student advice on everything involving university!”

Freshers Life allowed me to connect to so many people that I just wouldn’t have been able to find otherwise.

I was incredibly anxious starting uni but being able to find friends through Freshers Life before I even started helped me so much and I am still so close to the people I met this way!

The freshers week events that they organise gave me solid plans for my first weeks at uni and gave me the opportunity to meet so many people and explore different events as well. Overall they gave me the chance to really connect with people and make friends much easier than I ever imagined!
